Charity Quilt Supply Organization Days

This past winter, our group successfully sewed many charity quilts, and as a result, our fabric supplies are now in need of reorganization. To prepare for future projects, we are seeking volunteers to assist with several important tasks. These include measuring yardage, sorting fabric by size, and cutting kits.

Event Details

With our cook returning to Iowa for the summer, participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

Feel free to drop in and out as your schedule permits, but please register so we know you are coming!

We will be making a large 13.5 H, 16.5W, 6.5 D tote bag with inside pockets. It is mostly straight piecing, with easy zippers. This size tote is great for weekend getaways and sewing retreats. The wide opening makes it easy to pack and access your goodies, while the pockets keep things organized. Over the shoulder handles provide comfortable carrying and the durable bottom allows for heavy loads.

The pattern will be included and there will be prep work at home, all of which will be sent to participants as soon as possible.

Main Fabric (body and pockets) 1 ⅛ yard

Lining (body and pockets) 1 ⅛ yard

Coordinating fabric ( zipper strips and inner pockets) 1 yd.

Base (vinyl or canvas) 10 x 25 piece

Soft and Stable 1 yd

SF101 ¾ yd

Handbag zipper 1 single side 24 inch & 1 double side 30 inch

Webbing for handles 3 ¼ yards

Curvy Log Cabin (October 19, 2026)

Time: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Cost $15 per person

Class is Curvy Log Cabin

Choose 2 colors or a background and a variety of colors to make this beautiful log cabin variation. Come to class with your fabrics pressed. We will cut them in class and make 3-4 squares to begin your project. We will use Creative Grids Curvy Log Cabin ruler for the class and the instructor will have several for the class to try. There is a 6.5 inch and 8.5 inch version.

There are many different patterns that use this square. We will be making the pattern Rainbow Swirls which the instructor will provide. Supply list will be provided.

Cartonnage Tissue Box - The Art of Making Fabric Covered Boxes (November 16, 2026)

Time: 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Cost: $20/participant plus cost of kit (see below)

Cartonnage Tissue Box - The Art of Making Fabric Covered Boxes

No sewing machines, no supplies needed just 2 coordinating fat quarters. All other supplies will be provided. There will be a purchase of a Colorways Arts kit purchased through Mad B’s Quilt and Sew. The kit cost will be $21.95 and the participant will contact Mad B’s and order the kit #141, for the instructor to bring with her the day of the class. By ordering through Mad B’s the participant saves shipping costs.

You will use your kit and glue the fabrics to the precut chipboard and poster board step by step. You will be guided every step of the way and provided with tips, tricks and handy tools. You get to use the fabrics you love to create a beautiful tissue box cover and get inspired to do many more of the selection of boxes available as kits.
