Desert Threads became a charter member of the Arizona Quilters Guild on November 11, 2018, thanks to a determined and dedicated founders’ group. It soon became apparent that additional funds were needed to meet the Chapter’s goals to support membership with quality educational and charitable giving opportunities. A request for a grant from the Cottonwood Palo Verde Foundation, now known as The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation, in the amount of $2,100.00 was requested and granted in the fall of 2019.

Since then, Desert Threads has thrived by serving quilters in the East Valley, especially in Sun Lakes. In recognition of the Foundation’s role in that success the Chapter has proudly donated to the Foundation’s fundraising efforts for the past three years. Two quilts have been auctioned off, a large patriotic quilt in December, 2023 and a throw quilt with two bottles of wine in March, 2025, and a raffle basket containing a variety of bowl and plate warmers, table runner, soup kit, assorted chocolates, and two bottles of wine was donated in December 2025.

The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation has been grateful for the donations and Desert Threads has been proud to participate.
